Mom is in her new home. Today was her first day. We finished decorating her room and by now she is snugly tucked into bed. She likes her room. It is the most beautiful room in the whole place. She got to test out the fancy upright tub this evening. This is the first time she has been able to soak in a tub for years. I bet she loved the jets. Hopefully that relaxed her enough that she can manage a good nights sleep. She was nervous this morning. It is understandable. Unfortunately, I can't really help her as I have no experience to pass along. I don't know what it would be like to have to let a good portion of your belongings go and move into a private care home. The one thing I do know is that it will be nice to not have to worry how she is doing while we are gone for four months.
Now, to the used furniture! My garage looks like a used furniture store.
For sale:
1.One small oak table. It can be made larger. It has two expansion pieces that go with it as well as 6 oak stacking stools.
2. One over sized chair and matching love seat. Mom bought this a couple of years ago. It is like brand spanking new. She did not sit on them. They were very expensive.
3. A desk. It is like a roll down desk except it folds down instead.
4. A small TV stand with shelves for nick knacks and a glass door.
5. Microwave
6. Small television
7. Various assorted house hold items. Phone me. Let me know what you are looking for. I probably have it.
So, if any of you who live in this area are interested, come on down. I am sure we can make a deal. Yes, let's make a deal! Tomorrow I need to get out to the garage and try to sort things out. After that, the big pack begins again. In that area, I do have experience.

Hard To Believe
It is hard to believe that summer is half over already, at least here in Canada it is. By the beginning of September all the nice weather is pretty much finished. The trees even think so and show this by beginning to turn color.
It is hard to believe that we have been back from Seattle for over half a year already and that John has finished all of the treatments that were planned for him here. It is hard to believe that in just a measly three weeks we will be on our way back to Seattle.
It is hard to believe that Abigail is already sitting up on her own and that Hannah jumps in her jolly jumper.
It is hard to believe that next week we will be moving my mom into a private care home in our town. I am not going to have to worry so much about her as the home is wonderful and they will take fantastic care of her.
It is hard to believe that my youngest son moved back to British Columbia. We will stop by for a visit on our way to Seattle. We are going to miss him but know that he is happiest there and really we don't want the cancer to have to change every bodies lives. We are so sure that he is not moving back home that we renovated his old room. That is a blog post for the near future. I got a great headboard off of kijiji today. I am so jazzed! The room looks great. Ahem...it is blistering hot today and I am to lethargic to get off my chair and take pictures... so my pretties...another day.
There have been so many changes in the last few months since we have been home. When I think about it all, it makes my head spin. We have been busy.

It's Raining, It's Pouring
The old man is snoring. He is snoring on the couch. He got another day pass today and was able to be home for fathers day. We are having a nice quiet day. It is lovely to have naps on a rainy day or watch old movies or just curl up and read a book or watch five episodes of Dinners, Drive ins and Dives which is what papa bear is choosing to do. Irregardless of his TV watching preferences, it is nice to be home and to have him home too. I do love the man. Happy Fathers day papa bear.

Home Sweet Home
Most of my posts this month will be over at the John Braun Page see blog list on side bar cause I am too lazy to link but I thought I would drop a note here to let you know that so far everything is going pretty good. John is doing well and has been able to come home for day passes. He can continue to do that until his neutrophils drop. Neutrophils are the cells in your blood that fight infection. His white counts have dropped but as of this morning his neutrophils are still normal. I am sitting around at home waiting to see if I get to rescue him again today. He hates the hospital so much. Yesterday when we finally got to leave, he ran for the elevator. You could hardly see him go for the smoke he was leaving in his trail. His doctor a new guy who is covering for Dr. M. when he gets a day off was right behind. It made his eyes get big. So far he has not had the horrible time that he had with the last transplant. I hope that the trend continues.

Trucks That Drive On Ice
Ho boy, John is just settling in for another episode of Ice Road Truckers, one of his new favorites. I find it interesting for about five minutes. It costs ten million dollars a year to keep this road open in the winter. They can earn a years pay in two months. It is a dangerous job. That is about all I want to know. My attention span wanders away pretty fast. I can't watch episode after episode of trucks driving over the ice road. All the episodes seem the same to me. They drive trucks...on ice...
He loves to watch Axe Men. I can not tell these episodes apart either. Just a bunch of trees getting chopped down by a bunch of guys episode after episode although I prefer it to the truckers. They don't swear as much as the truckers do. Those truckers sure do swear a lot. Beep...beeeep...beep. Good thing that I have a good book to read. I think I shall go do that...NOW.

Saturday Morning = Fishing Shows
Somebody in Saskatchewan won 17 million dollars in the lottery on Friday. I hope it was somebody that deserves it and is a generous person. Just to let my kids know, it was not me and I don't think it was your father either. You have to have a ticket to win. We have been too sick to venture out to do things like buy lottery tickets, not that we ever bother to buy very many of them. We have been living the life of hermits. John has had a rough go of it but I think he is now starting to see the light.
John is running around in his underwear this morning and seems quite perky. It is Saturday morning and that means fishing shows. He loves fishing shows. He is laughing because Gary Cooper caught a great big Sturgeon that he had to drag to shore and the fish dragged him onto his face.
I am feeling much better this morning. That horrible ache between my shoulders has eased up. It doesn't hurt to breath this morning. I am sure that the painful breathing was related to my backache. I don't have any more excuses for not doing the housework. That, my friends, is a good thing.
I have a question. Is doesn't a legitimate word? My spell checker does not think that it is. I use it all the time. Am I wrong? People who know me, know that I am a terrible speller. I am very grateful for my spell checker. My husband tells people that I am so deficient at spelling that I don't even know how to spell my name. He is lying. I do know how to spell my name. Well, what do you expect from a man who runs around in his underwear and will watch fishing shows all morning? Sorry for the visual picture people. I think it is funny.
Now I have to watch some guy fillet fish. He is very fast. This makes John very happy. Hang on a second. Well, he was impressive. Now, John is simultaneous browsing fishing sites on line while watching TV. He is looking for something that would make a great fishing trip, like fishing for Sturgeon on the Fraser River. Three people for eight hours of fishing pay 200 dollars each. Oh the gears are turning! All tackle and bait supplied. They bring a camera to get all the pictures. The average sturgeon is five feet long and weighs ???? I missed that.
I am going to go now. This is not very productive. John is tossing fishing thoughts and ideas at me so fast, I can't think for myself. Oh, if you have not heard enough about this man and his fish, you might be amused with this post. For myself, I think I have heard enough fish trivia for today. Exit stage left. He won't see me for the smoke.

Post 251 or Where Did She come From?
Another good title for this post is: What Type Of Alien Is Chris? John loves to tease me about being an alien. I want to set your minds to rest. I did not come from a different planet located on the far side of the galaxy. I came from a place far more exotic than that! Yes, I am an American. I have waved the flag, know the Pledge Of Allegiance , know the words of America The Beautiful and the words to The Battle Hymn Of The Republic as well as the other version titled: Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory Of The Burning Of The School. In hindsight, not a very nice song! I have not thought of that for years!
I was born in St Francis hospital in Colorado Springs in 1954. I am sure I would hardly be able to recognize this city today although I do know that The Broodmoor Arena has not been demolished because I see it on the television occasionally. Second thought, I think it probably was demolished but a new arena is there instead. This place does not look the same. I am not sure. The Broodmoor was my second home as my father was a hockey fanatic being the good Canadian boy that he was. I see they use similar training techniques with the children today. The only difference is: I was a speed skater and the guy leading the line Our line was never referred to as a conga line! It was a train was Mr. Cagnoni. He was probably 70 years old and could whistle like a train. We loved our coach.

Both of my parents were Canadians from Saskatchewan. After my parents decided to live separate lives, my brother and myself moved to Canada with my mom in order for her to be close to her family. It was a difficult transition. Thirteen or Fourteen is not a great age to change schools. Canada was ahead in the way math was taught. I struggled with the "New Math" all the way through High School. I missed my friends.
I do miss Colorado Springs mainly because it is nestled in some of the most beautiful country in the world and because of the climate. I have not been back for thirty four years except in my mind. I would love to visit. I would love it if I could bring all of my kids and grand children and show them where I started my life. We would tour Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods and Cripple Creak. We would go see my old school and I would show them Shnooks Run, the little creak that ran behind the school and where I spent many hours adventuring even though I was not supposed to. We would go to Manitou Springs and see if the Penny Arcade is still there. I would want it to be fall so I could see the mountains on fire with the Aspen as it changes colors.
It was difficult to get used to the frigid north. The best a person can do is get used to it. That does not mean that anybody actually likes the winter! Saskatchewan is now my home. I have come to love it plus my family is here. Saskatchewan has a beauty of its own. I love the open sky's and the miles and miles of wheat and canola fields. I love the forests in the north.I love the lakes! We have no shortage of fresh water lakes. I am content.

Here is a blast from the past! I am the one on the left in the white wind breaker.

Shameless campaigning
I can say with absolute certainty that I feel not even a hint of shame to do a little campaigning for one of my favorite blogs that I have been following. Momisoides has been nominated for a Scholastic award for best mommy blog. Out of 500 blogs put forward they narrowed down the field to the final ten. She is one of the ten. If she gets through to the final five, she will be featured in Parent and Child magazine. Ummm...she did not ask me to do this but I really would love to see her win so I did it! Eeeeeeeee! Follow the purple links...follow the purplke links....follow the purple links. Ahem...sorry, just my little attempt at some virtual hypnosis. Did it work? No? Close your eyes. Repeat the red words a few more times. There! Away you go to vote.
I was away all last week. I jumped on the bus. I went to help my daughter with the renovations on the new house that they have purchased. It has been so much fun to watch the house come out of the eighties and be turned into a modern bright and fresh home. We got the babies room painted. It is the most beautiful soft shade of pink. The crowning glory in the room is the chandelier with the pink crystals. We were both clapping our hands with glee.

I was expecting to come home and start packing to leave for Seattle this week and to probably be leaving the week after. That was what was supposed to be happening. While I was gone, the people in Seattle decided that they wanted John to do one more round of Velcade, Cyclophosphomide and Dexamethasone. They have proposed that instead of going directly into the donor transplant, they figure that they should do another autologous transplant (using his own cells) and then follow right away with doing an allogeneic transplant (donor cells) . They want to do all of this in Seattle. It is all up in the air at this point. Our doctor is against doing the auto transplant. He is away this week. I think we will be meeting with his associate later this week. We really are confused by all of this change in direction by the people in Seattle. There was no talk of the possibility of doing another auto while we were out there. Both of us are dreading that possibility. It is a very hard thing to go through. It will extend the time we are out there.
The only good news about everything is that we may be able to be here when grand daughter number two is born on April first. My daughter still is having problems believing that this is indeed a girl. Well just a little anyway. It has to do with the date of the C-section. April Fools day! She thinks that maybe....yeah... April fools...its a boy! Oh, one last cute picture! Sammy fell asleep with his head on a ball.

Today I Want To....
Finish Up: Get this ready for the mail. I finally finished it and even went to a special store to acquire the little surprise that I wanted to tuck inside. I promised this box, I think, over a year ago. I am not one hundred percent happy with the job that I did. Part of the problem is due to the fact that I can not find the superior boxes that I used to be able to buy. The lid on this is so thin, I can't carve as deep as I would like to. I felt like starting over but decided against it. I had lots of problems with it.My dear husband fixed them all. With tongue in cheek, he told me that he would like some credit. Hahaha! Maybe I should give him all the credit. Maybe the surprise inside will help. I sure hope so.

Explain About My Birthday: My birthday was on Feb. 8th. I did not write about it because I was on a pity party. I had already invited too many others to attend. Seriously! When I am like that, I don't need any further encouragement or the party could go on for days on end. I hope that nobody got the impression that my family was ignoring me. A party was planned. Things just came up to cause it to be cancelled for a little while. Hubby got me this:

It cost him double the price he should have had to pay. He forgot it in the cart outside the store. Nobody turned it in. He had to buy it a second time. He said that I was worth it. I have to wait until Valentines day to get this:

I was distinctly told not to go into the filing cabinet. I FORGOT! Shhh! please do not tell on me.
I love heart shaped boxes. I have always been a sucker for them. I love what is inside the heart shaped boxes even more. I got John some woodworking magazines for Valentines day. Nothing says "I love you" like a woodworking magazine. Seriously! Nothing says "I love you" more than getting him what he asks for.
My daughter, Angela, is taking me out for a girls night only tonight. I don't know what she has planned. Oh my goodness! Part of the plan just walked into the door. Becky, Ben and Sam! Eeeeee! Got to go!

I Wish You A Merry Christmas
I remember the excitement I felt Christmas Eve when I was a child. I would go to sleep and dream of what Santa would leave at our house on his travels. Well, that is not entirely true. I didn't really believe in Santa but that did nothing to diminish my excitement. Would I get a new Barbie? Maybe a new troll doll. Does anybody remember those. My troll doll went to school with me and lived in my desk. Possibly a Barbie bus or better yet, Barbie Dream House! Maybe I would get some new Barbie cloths and accessories. I was a Barbie crazy girl! Oh, the excitement. Oh, the suspense. We did not get a lot of toys but every Christmas morning there would be something special. On Christmas Eve the tree seemed to sparkle more and the snow was whiter. My pajamas seemed softer and my bed cozier. Hot chocolate tasted better. Christmas Eve surrounded my family with laughter, smiles and songs. Some days I wish I could go back.
When I got married and had babes of my own Christmas Eve was still exciting but in a different way. How I loved watching my children vibrate with excitement. They looked cozy in their new pajamas as I would tuck them into bed. The tree sparkled more than it did the day before. The snow fell softer. The fire crackled. The candles glowed and my hot chocolate tasted mighty fine. I loved watching my girls with their Barbie Dolls Christmas morning. It was fun watching my brother try to play Barbie with them and the girls rolling their eyes at him because he did not have a clue. The boys would try to get in on it too. We would have to shoo them away back to their Legos. The laughter, the smiles and the fun was just as wonderful. Some days I wish I could go back.
Now my babes have babes of their own. Things have changed again as time rolls steady ahead. Now I watch as my children watch their children vibrate with excitement. I see their smiles and listen to them recount all those funny things that children do at Christmas. It makes me happy and gives me a feeling of peace. I am happy to be at home at this time of the year. Some things may be different this year but the joy of having my family around fixes anything else that is missing. There are still children in my life who carry the magic of Christmas in their hearts. For this reason only, I want time to stand still.
Sometimes I think about what future Christmas will be like. What will it be like when I can hardly get out of my rocking chair. Will the tree still sparkle more? Will the snow simply be a bother that chills me to the bones? Will there be any children around grinning their toothy grins with their eyes laughing, inviting me to play? Will there be any Barbies under the tree? I pray that God will give me the grace to get old. I pray that Christmas will always have magic and that I will remember that Christmas is about God coming to dwell in our midst bringing peace, beauty and life.
May your tree shine bright. May your home be filled with laughter and mugs of hot chocolate this year and in all your Christmases yet to be and... may you always find a Barbie under your tree.

Christmas Is Coming
I have to say, I have really outdone myself this year as far as outside decorating goes. I hauled these out of the garage yesterday and stuck them into the snow. I hope we don't get a strong wind. Maybe tomorrow I will dig out the red and green flood lights and the plastic snowman. Beautiful isn't it? Please say it is so...
I pretty much finished my Christmas shopping today. It took 10 minutes. I knew exactly what I wanted, went into the store and got it. I really lucked out. Of the two items that I bought I got the last ones that they had in the sizes and colors that I wanted. Whew! I am so glad that I did not wait until tomorrow.
This poor mouse head is waiting for his body. I asked him and he does not want to become a finger puppet. It seems that the body maker has gone AWOL! I have tried to reassure him that his body will be here soon. I still have some more heads to make. I just have to sew the eyes on his brother and then a couple of cats are next.

Baby It Is Cold Outside
How cold is it? It is so cold that my eyelashes want to freeze closed with the tears that the freaking cold causes my eyes to produce. It is so cold that the metal on my eyeglasses hurts my face. Apparently, this is not going to go away any time soon. Oh well! I would not know what it was like to go out Christmas shopping in warm weather and HEY! we Canadians are made of tough stuff. We simply like to hear the sound of our voices whining. It harmonizes with the song our vehicles make when we try to start them.

We did brave the cold and went to church this morning. One nice thing about coming home are all the nice warm hugs you get. A whole bunch of us stayed after and ordered pizza. We had a nice time and I did not have to cook lunch.
I am a little closer to being ready for Christmas thanks too my brother in law and sister in law who sent us a really nice care package. They sent one large box of Christmas baking and a swack of lasagna, chili and home made spaghetti sauce. They live a couple of hours away otherwise they would be wiping my slobber off of their faces already. Big hugs and kisses to you guys! Today was a day of blessings.

Home Is Where The Heart Is
Sorry...no pictures! They are on the lap top and I don't want to be bothered moving them or firing up the lap top. I spent the day organizing my kitchen and cleaning the stove. I had not got around to that before we left so it is nice that it is finished. All that is left in the kitchen is to reorganize the fridge. I have not got everything unpacked. There is no hurray. I will work at it bit by bit a little every day.
Our appointment went well at the cancer clinic yesterday. The short of it was that it is just a bump in the road. Treatment will start Monday. You can read more about it here if you wish. It is nice to be home. I feel a little panic because Christmas is coming fast and we are not even close to being ready. We had not planned for a Christmas at home. Angela had put up the tree. I am glad for that. I probably won't bother with much more than that although I would like a few lights up outside. Maybe I will go and stick the candy cane lights up. It looks more like Christmas here. There is snow on the ground. We are back to winter. The cold is a little bit of a shock.
The dog was very happy to see us. It took a long time for him to calm sown. He figured that he should sleep on the bed. He never does that. He hardly leaves my side. He is following me all over the house. Poor dog. Angela and Mike are happy because he is leaving them alone.

Home Sweet Home
Well almost. Where we are is just as good as home. We are at my daughters home playing with our grandkids. We will go home tomorrow. John has an appointment at the cancer clinic Thursday. They will probably start treatment as early as Tuesday. We drove about 10 hours today so I am tired and of coarse busy. Got to go kiss the kidlets goodnight. I will put up the rest of the pictures of our trip home later. Don't get too excited. The rest of Montana was pretty boring and Saskatchewan is just winter prairie. It was late and not very good for pictures. So, later....
