She Is Up On Cloud Nine

It was minus 41C early this morning. Minus 40C = minus 40F. It was minus 50C with the wind chill. John and I were out in that cold yesterday afternoon and evening. I have to say, we did not mind. I would have gone out into minus 60 if I would have had too. Did I hear somebody ask: "What ever would induce you to such insanity?" Well...my son asked the grandpa and myself to go and sit and keep his beautiful wife company in the birthing room while he went and ran a few errands. They figured they had lots of time. Heehee! NOT REALLY! Mommy did very good during labor. What a trooper! I am very glad for that as I don't know how great a coach I would have been. As it was all I did was tell her how great she was doing and that she would be soon rounding home plate and kept my eyes glued on the monitor watching as the contractions started to pile on each other. Eeeeek! GET BACK HERE JONATHAN!I had to work hard to hide the excessive happiness I was feeling. I figured that it is probably not to wise to be overly cheerful around a laboring woman. I know I would have probably decked somebody if they had been bubbling around me. It sure brought back lots of memories.

Things got percolating just a little faster than expected. He did make it back in time. JUST IN TIME! Thank goodness for that. Everything went fantastic. We got to be there. I heard her first cries. We were only a few doors down the hall. When I told the grandpa that I heard a baby crying he went down the hall and put his ear to the door. He was pretty excited too! I had to talk him away from the door. He was not supposed to be there. Hahaha! That was a hard job but I succeeded. We got to see her when she was brand new. She is 8 pounds of beauty. She was wide awake and very alert. You will be hearing much more about her. Heehee! As you can tell, I am still up in the clouds. Oh! Her name? Abigail.

Oh, I love the name Abigail. John sounded so proud yesterday when he called. Usually when you ask him, "What did the baby look like?" his answer was, "A baby". This time when I asked him that he said, "She is just so pretty."
Congratulations on being a grandma and grandpa to your first little granddaughter.

Oh, too bad you were sent out of the room. I got to be there and see 3 of my grandchildren come into the world. Such a wonderful thing to do. When the 4th was born I had a bad cough so stayed away from the hospital.

Congratulations! I'm still waiting for that moment to happen. My take on who's there is not like most I guess. I wanted just my husband and unless I was absolutely sure my sons and DILS want the whole mob around ,I'll leave that moment to the Moms and Dads. But I'll be there 5 minutes later with bells on!

How exciting for you to be able to be there. My first grandchild was born in San Antonio, Tx, while I was in Atlanta, Ga. I had to drive 1010 miles to hold him for the first time.
The second one was born in Guam, and I had to wait until she was 10 months old to meet her. You are one lucky duck to be able to be there.
