Yee Haw! It Is Melting!

Even though I already walked 3 miles today on the treadmill and walked some more shopping, I decided to take a walk around the block. It is so sunny and warm and unwindy. My heart has been longing for weather like this. Look! It is melting!

Even though everything looks dirty there is a beauty in the spring melt. The grass is peeking through on the front lawn. The shrub garden is still covered but soon it will show itself too. I planted it last summer after we took the large Spruce trees out. They were killing the lawn. This summer they should start to grow.

Note the Christmas decorations on this house. This is very typical for Canadians to do. Who wants to go out and take the decorations down when your ears could freeze off you head in a few minutes. You can't see it in the picture of our house, but our lights are still up. I found this so strange when I first moved here.

These runners are still here. I think they will stay there until the laces rot. How long do you think this will take. We could start a gambling poll or I could award a prize to whoever gets the closest! The only problem with that is that you may have to wait a really long time to see who wins. Oh, what the heck. Enter your guess. I will write it down and send a prize to the winner. The shoes have been there since fall.

Woohoo! So glad it's melting there :) It's melted here too...but now it's raining :( We also have many homes still decorated for the holidays. I found it quite odd when we moved here last year.

Ha! I didn't think it was a contest for real :) Hmmmm...since fall huh?

I'll take a stab in the dark and say until the end of summer....but I'm guessing they may be up there for a bit longer :)

Would I still get the prize if I picked a day and then on that day went out there and threw sticks and rocks at them till they fell down? 'Cause then my guess is March 14th.

Sandy: I need a day, month and year.
Becky: that would be cheating! Guess again.

When I go back to Reisterstown next week, I will try to remember to check and see if the sneakers that have been on the wire on Hanover Road sre still there. The last time I checked, it had been over two years.

We are getting signs of melting, too. Although this last week we had a few sub-zero temps again. I love seeing that dirty, receding snow. The bits of dead (dormant) grass get my heart beating in anticipation of spring. :D

Power-lining shoes is a big thing out here. There are a pair of work boots just off Church Road that had been there since we moved here 4 years ago and last week I noticed that they were gone. My boys hung a pair of my running shoes at our old house in Nanoose that have been there for about 2 years. So my guess is Sept 10, 2009.

Those were some nice pictures. I bet it's exciting to see the grass and shrubs peeking out. Here we don't have that drastic change. Our grass is out almost all winter. It's funny, though, because of the rain we still have a difference between spring and winter. Things start to look cleaner in spring because they start drying out.
About the shoes...I think it will be at least next year if they are not helped down by anyone. Let's say October 2009.
