Time

Fast on the tail of Merry Christmas comes Happy New Year. No sooner than the last of the wrapping paper is cleaned up and the last of the turkey is gone, the new year descends. I am glad that this year is not a new millennium and that there are no threats of Y2K or fears of great doom. The world is in enough trouble already with out all of that. I personally will be happy to have a nice quiet start to the new year. Typically, we celebrate the coming of the new year very quietly. We like to rent a good movie and order in Chinese food. Seldom do we manage to stay awake until midnight. We steal an early new year kiss and head off to slumber, cozy and safe in our beds. We leave all the celebrating to the young who have much stronger constitutions than us. Seriously, we will still be recovering from all the Christmas festivities.

Usually at this time of the year, I find myself reviewing the last year, summing it all up. What was good? What was bad? I am always amazed at how fast it all went. Where did the time go? Do you remember when you were young and time ran slow? It seems the older a person gets the faster time goes by. Perhaps it is because when you are young you mainly spend time waiting for something, waiting to get big, waiting until you are old enough to be able to do the things that your older sibling gets to do or waiting for an event or to get somewhere. My grandson told me that it would take forever for Christmas to come. He did not seem convinced when I told him that it would be here in a blink of an eye. "Grandma, you are joking!" he told me. Time runs slow when you are waiting.

I find that as an adult I tend to want time to slow down! Oh my! Christmas was coming much too fast. I needed more time to be ready. I am always looking for time. As an adult, time seems to be in short supply. It is a rare commodity. We value it like gold and diamonds. I mine time. I try desperately at times to set aside a few small time stashes. I call them Time Hoards. A person can have Time Shares so why not Time Hoards? I like to set aside time just so I can waste it! I did this today. I slept 10 hours. Bliss!

Children wait ever so eagerly and impatiently to see what time will bring them. They hurry time. How many times did your kids bang away on the bathroom door begging you to hurry with your bathroom business? We dig in our heels trying to hold time back. How often do we say "I need more time!" or this one "Can you give me a few seconds?" or "Maybe tomorrow" or "I need some time to gather my thoughts" The list could go on and on.

My wish for you in thew New year is to find multiple Time Hoards and that you will feel free to waste them in any way you wish. May your year go s-l-o-w and may you have all the time you wish to do your bathroom business. I am sure that these wishes are appropriate as the probability of children reading the ramblings here at the Coop are probably next to nil. On the slight off chance that one little one has inadvertently stumbled into here, I will simply say to you: "It will all come in the blink of an eye. I am not joking."

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Ahhh, yes, time moves faster than the speed of light. I wish I still did.

How true. I have been thinking about that a bit since turning 50 last month. How I sometimes wish I could turn back time or just stop it for a while.
I do like the idea of Time Hoards.

I waste 'way too much time just feeling poorly. If I'm going to hoard time I want to hoard the minutes when I feel really well. As for the new year - I'm sure 2008 was the pits and 2009 will be the berries.

I couldn't agree more! The older one gets, the faster time flies! I would love to be able to hoard some time now and then!

Oh how I miss waiting around to be older. Now I wish I had time to wait around and be younger :)

This year really did feel like it passed in a blink of an eye for us. I am so glad that we found each other online, and I look forward to seeing you on the flip side of 2009.

Happy New Year!
